SCHEDULE of REHEARSALS
Weekly Music Rehearsals will begin in May. We will meet once per week until July 21st when we will begin evening rehearsals at the playhouse four-five days per week. The show opens in September and performances are scheduled for Sept 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, 11th, 12th, 13th & 14th. Please make sure that you will be available on the performance dates as well as for the majority of rehearsals. It is an absolute must to have the entire cast present for every rehearsal in the week leading up to opening night as well.

REQUIREMENTS:
The play is mostly a “sung through” musical. Auditions will require the ability to sing and act through song. Those wishing to audition for key roles should come prepared with an audition piece that matches the role. For instance, if auditioning for Mrs. Lovett, you should come prepared to perform “The Worst Pies in London”. This is not an absolute requirement, but is HIGHLY suggested!
For chorus, minor singing roles & ensemble, you may sing a song of your choosing; that you feel best highlights your voice for the production.
Sweeney Todd requires minimal dancing and choreography.
Auditioners will be allowed a two minute audition for each show.
Bring your own accompaniment track on CD. You may sing acapella, but it’s not recommended (unless you’re just that good). PLEASE!! Do NOT bring a recording with vocal tracks on it. This makes it very difficult for the director to hear your voice.

ABOUT THE SHOW
Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street is a 1979 musical thriller with music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and book by Hugh Wheeler. The musical is based on the 1973 play Sweeney Todd, the Demon Barber of Fleet Street by Christopher Bond. Set in 19th century England, the musical tells the story of Benjamin Barker, aka Sweeney Todd, who returns to London after 15 years’ transportation on trumped-up charges. When he finds out that his wife poisoned herself after being raped by the judge who transported him, he vows revenge on the judge and, later, other people too. He teams up with a piemaker, Mrs. Lovett, and opens a barbershop in which he slits the throats of customers and has them baked into pies.
Sweeney Todd opened on Broadway in 1979 and in the West End in 1980. In addition to several revivals the musical has been presented by opera companies. It won the Tony Award for Best Musical and Olivier Award for Best New Musical.
