OCP ready to unleash Christmas spirit
ORANGE — Food, music and dancing will help make Christmas more merry this year with the OCP.
The Orange Community Players will hold its annual holiday fundraising event, “Yuletide,” at 7:37 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 11, Friday, Dec. 12, and Saturday, Dec. 13, at the Playhouse, 708 W. Division in downtown Orange. Tickets are $20 per person and the public is invited.
The yearly tradition is a fundraiser for OCP and has become a holiday season favorite in the community.
“Every penny we make goes toward the upkeep and maintenance of the playhouse,” said Rico Vasquez, director of “Yuletide.” “We want to grow our theater, and we hope to have a top of the line theater one day.”
Vasquez said the cast of 25 actors has been hard at work since before Thanksgiving in an effort to prepare its holiday extravaganza.
“We are taking a slightly different approach to ‘Yuletide’ this year,” Vasquez continued. “It’s a blue and silver Christmas, instead of the traditional red and green, and the theme is unofficially ‘The Bells of Christmas,’ because quite a few songs have the word ‘bells’ in them.
“We didn’t want it to be the same show people have seen before,” he said. “We just want to present a different side of Christmas for everyone.”
Vasquez knows the $20 ticket price may cause some people to hesitate, but the ticket offers patrons more than just a show.
“You can’t go see a movie and out to eat for what this admission gets you,” Vasquez explained. “You get hors d’oeuvres before the show, then, at intermission, wine, wassel and dessert are available. It’s all included in the price of the ticket.”
The Orange Community Players typically hold a spring fundraiser event, “Broadway Fun for Funds,” which began as an effort to help make repairs to the facility ravaged by Hurricane Ike. However, the spring event was bypassed this year which makes the “Yuletide” event all the more important.
“It’s a great way to enjoy an evening, and it’s for a good cause,” he said.
