Open auditions.
Into the Woods has a flexible cast size of approximately 20 that includes many featured roles for male and female actors. Strong singers are required.
Auditioners for featured roles will be required to sing. It is preferred that auditioners sing a selection from Into the Woods or at the least, a Sondheim piece.
Accompanyment from “Sing The Broadway Musical INTO THE WOODS (Accompaniment 2-CD Set)” will be avalible, or auditioners may bring thier own or sing acapella (not recommended).
DO NOT bring accompanyment that includes vocals on the recording.
Music rehearsals will begin immediatly following auditions. No more than once or twice per week.
Evening, weekday rehearsals will begin on the OCP stage, February 22nd with final performance dates April 14th – 17th, 21st – 24th.
This is a difficult show that requires a committed cast and crew. If you are unable to commit to regular attendance of scheduled rehearsals, this is not the show for you.

The cast breakdown below is the recommendation from MTI and not an absolute. I am open to bending some of the usual expectations (such as the possibility of a child aged 11-13 to play the narrator).

ABOUT THE SHOW:
Into The Woods
Book by James Lapine
Music and Lyrics by Stephen Sondheim

2 Acts, Book Musical, Rated PG-13

The Brothers Grimm hit the stage with an epic fairytale about wishes, family and the choices we make.

James Lapine and Stephen Sondheim take everyone’s favorite storybook characters and bring them together for a timeless yet relevant piece and rare modern classic. The TONY Award-winning book and score are both enchanting and touching.

The story follows a Baker and his wife who wish to have a child, Cinderella who wishes to attend the King’s Festival, and Jack who wishes his cow would give milk. When the Baker and his wife learn that they cannot have a child because of a Witch’s curse, the two set off on a journey to break the curse. Everyone’s wish is granted, but the consequences of their actions return to haunt them later with disastrous results.

One of Sondheim’s most popular works, Into The Woods is a musically sophisticated show with the opportunity to feature actors adept at dark comedy. Designers will especially enjoy highlighting the fantastical elements of this magical word.
