Director: Andrew Gibson
Performance Dates: August 18th, 19th, 20th 25th, 26th 27th at 7:37pm & 28th at 2:37pm
Audition Dates: July 3rd at 2pm
How to Prepare: Auditions will consist of cold readings. To better prepare, research may be done on the struggles that the mentally disabled face in today’s society. I really want to see some character development that respectfully represents this specific group of people.
Rehearsal Schedule: The rehearsal schedule for this show will be very light at first and then adjusted as we get closer to the show date. There is no doubt in my mind that, if everyone does their part, we can get this show together on a schedule that is easy for all. Rehearsals will be Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 6pm-9pm for the time being.
Note from the Director: The Boys Next Door was the first show that I was ever in, as an actor, and this script is half the reason I fell in love with theater. This show has some of the funniest moments that I have ever read in a script. The thing that makes this script truly amazing is that it takes an honest and open look at those persons in our community that society rarely acknowledges. The audience will experience the difficulties of living with a mental disability that “normal” society often ridicules and discards. There is an awesome opportunity with this show to reduce the stigma associated with mental illness, through compassion and laughter. We hope to show that those living a mentally challenged life aren’t to be ostracized from our community, but to simply be the Boys Next Door.
